The commission
Two long-running UK painting magazines, The Artist and Leisure Painter, commissioned me to write series introducing readers to gouache and offering practical guidance on how to work with it.

The articles
In The Artist, my three-part series “Discovering Gouache” began with what makes the medium unique and a guide to recommended paint brands before moving on to technique. In Leisure Painter, the two-part series “Back to Basics: Gouache” included a guide to 12 techniques, from staining and blooming to dry brushing, glazing and play. Each article featured my own paintings, along with separate color charts and technique samples to compliment the articles as needed.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, these series were designed to inspire you to explore gouache for yourself.
